More and more residents getting involved
Please note the version printed in the August 1st edition of Rocky View Weekly was modified and omitted the final paragraph. What follows is the full letter. The recent flurry of letters to the editor makes it clear that Rocky View Forward presents a direct threat to what has been the status quo for far too long in Rocky View County. One would think there is plenty of room for two groups in this County. Oddly when a group of developers and landowners (most who don’t even live

Put a moratorium on gravel (until the ARP is complete)
On June 13th, at the same time as Rocky View Council approved a delay to the Aggregate Resource Plan, it opened the flood gates for gravel applications to rush through under what they acknowledge are weak existing performance standards. This means residents must be extra vigilant as at least four new gravel applications come forward before the fall election – starting with the Summit Aggregate application on June 27th, followed closely by two additional applications on July 1

County ignores request for journalistic integrity
Given the revelations in Jessi Gowan’s February 28th article, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that Council voted down a motion to improve the County’s media policy by including anti-discrimination principles and clarifying its wording. Council misses the boat on finance committee
As someone who has sat on audit/finance committees for major organizations, I find council’s decision to defer establishing such a committee for Rocky View County (RVC) deeply distressing. Council’s discussion of the issue and their decision clearly suggests that few on council have any notion of the value that such a generally accepted key component of governance brings to a large and complex organization such as RVC. Federal and provincial governments recognize this value t

Rocky View Forward discovers County debt much higher than previously thought
Persistence and deep digging by Rocky View Forward members have resulted in the County confirming long held suspicions that the amount still outstanding on the east RV infrastructure is much higher than is generally understood – more than $86 million. A far cry from the $56 million previously understood to be the County's long term debt. In the early 2000s, the County invested heavily in east Rocky View's water/waste water infrastructure. Council argued that if they built the

Rocky View Forward Successfully Advocates to Have Electoral Boundary Review Postponed
On November 22nd, after considerable debate, Rocky View Council voted to defer revising the electoral boundaries until after the next municipal election in October, 2017. Rocky View staff started a review over the summer, after Council approved terms of reference in June 2016. Staff brought back their recommendations in October, at which point Council sent the issue back for further revision. Staff provided three recommendations: two seven division options and one nine divi
