More and more residents getting involved
Please note the version printed in the August 1st edition of Rocky View Weekly was modified and omitted the final paragraph. What follows is the full letter. The recent flurry of letters to the editor makes it clear that Rocky View Forward presents a direct threat to what has been the status quo for far too long in Rocky View County. One would think there is plenty of room for two groups in this County. Oddly when a group of developers and landowners (most who don’t even live

We need change in RVC Council chambers
Little concern has been shown for the needs and welfare of small landowners, and those who still want to maintain an agrarian lifestyle. Government should work for the people they were elected to represent. It is we who are in the majority who have lost control of our own destiny to powerful vested interests whose sole purpose is to line their pockets with cash conveniently "greased" by a group of political lapdogs. Development aside, this council's record is strewn with a li

Disappointment reigns supreme at Council Hearing
At its June 27th meeting, the Council majority sunk to an all-time low in terms of shameful behaviour. Attending Council meetings on a regular basis leaves one somewhat jaded – but, they managed to far exceed even our expectations for depravity. The meeting went from one debacle to the next. In the morning, administration attempted to introduce an entirely new residential land use district as part of a specific redesignation application. That would have been newsworthy exc

Put a moratorium on gravel (until the ARP is complete)
On June 13th, at the same time as Rocky View Council approved a delay to the Aggregate Resource Plan, it opened the flood gates for gravel applications to rush through under what they acknowledge are weak existing performance standards. This means residents must be extra vigilant as at least four new gravel applications come forward before the fall election – starting with the Summit Aggregate application on June 27th, followed closely by two additional applications on July 1

Glenbow Ranch ASP given first reading
On April 25th, Council unsurprisingly moved to approve the Glenbow Ranch Area Structure Plan (GRASP). While it only received 1st reading, there is little doubt that it will receive their stamp of approval when in comes back to Council for 2nd and 3rd reading on June 27th. GRASP is a glaring example of what is so wrong in this County. Council took special pains to champion a proposal that benefits no one other than one large landowning family; a plan supported by no one othe

County ignores request for journalistic integrity
Given the revelations in Jessi Gowan’s February 28th article, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that Council voted down a motion to improve the County’s media policy by including anti-discrimination principles and clarifying its wording. I am, however, appalled at the self-serving nature of their decision. Very few media outlets cover the County’s news. Rocky View Weekly is the main source accompanied by a few surrounding area papers that weigh in on County issues from time t
